Some of my favorite photo locations in Kodiak are the ones that people don’t always think about first, and the driving range at Bear Valley Golf Course is one of those places. Tucked between mountains and open green space, this area has some of the best summer scenery you can find on the road system. With wide mountain views and plenty of greenery during the warmer months, it becomes a beautiful location for photos when everything is in full bloom.
One of the best parts about this location is how easy it is to get to. Bear Valley Golf Course is only about ten minutes from USCG Base Kodiak and around twenty minutes from town, which makes it a great option for anyone who wants beautiful views without having to drive far. Even though it is close, it still feels quiet and open, with mountains surrounding the area and creating a really scenic backdrop for photos.
One thing to keep in mind when planning a summer session at Bear Valley Golf Course is the mosquitoes. When the weather warms up, they can get pretty intense, especially in the evenings. If you plan to take photos here during the summer months, I always recommend bringing bug spray and being prepared so you can still enjoy the session without worrying about it.
Even though I photographed this as a maternity session, this location works just as well for couples portraits. It is one of those places that looks completely different depending on the season, but in the summer it really stands out as one of the greenest and most scenic spots close to town. For anyone looking for a location with mountain views, open space, and easy access, the driving range at Bear Valley Golf Course is always a great choice.
